According to the type of alloy to be extruded,the annual production capacity of a single machine and the maximum external diameter of the profile,we will initially select thetype of extrusion machine,and the first issue to consider for industrial aluminium profiles is how big the tonnage of the extrusion machine is.

When choosing the tonnage of the extruder,the extrusion ratio of the extruder should be calculated first.The extrusion ratio,also known as the extrusion coefficient,refers tothe ratio between the cross-sectional area of the extrusion cylinder and the total cross-sectional area of the aluminium profile,which is the main parameter used to measurethe size of aluminium alloy deformation in the production of aluminium profiles,expressed by the following equation.

where Ft denotes the cross-sectional area of the aluminium ingot after filling the extrusion barrel,expressed in mm².


ZF1 denotes the total cross-sectional area of the extruded profile,expressed in mm².


The size of the deformation of the aluminium alloy during extrusion of the aluminium profile can also be expressed in terms of the degree of deformation:e=λ-1If the extrusion process is used,there is a finite value for the extrusion ratio.The extrusion ratio λfor aluminium profiles and bars in primary extrusion should be greater than 8-12,and there is no limit on the extrusion ratio for the billets used in secondary extrusion.


The method used above to calculate the extrusion ratio is simply to use the cross-sectional area of the extruded ingot÷the cross-sectional area of the extruded profile,but canalso be calculated in other ways,i.e.the length of the extruded profile÷the length of the ingot used for extrusion.


Before determining the size of the extruder tonnage,it is also necessary to understand the shape of the section of the profile,so as to determine the size of the die,and thendetermine the structure of the die,so as to determine whether the extrusion is a hollow or solid profile,and the tonnage of the extruder required for these two differentstructural profiles is different.
